USC Game Will be a Family Affair for Safety

As the 2006 season began, all Ryan McFoy could talk to his family about is week six of the Sun Devils' schedule. This is when the true freshman will meet, and at times probably defend, older brother Chris who is a senior wide receiver for USC Trojans.

"I've never played against him before so it's going to be fun", commented safety Ryan McFoy about next week's match-up. McFoy also added that the banter between him and Chris has been going on for a while. "I'll be trash taking all game to him," he admitted, "and it all started when I signed at ASU. I told him that when we play them (USC) I'm going to hit you."

The former Chino (Calif.) star has already amazed fans with his commitment to hard work and his uncanny ability to be at the right spot at the right time during the course of a game. In just four contests into his collegiate career, McFoy has collected 17 tackles, one sack and an interception returned for a touchdown. Amazingly enough, all this is taking place while playing backup to senior safety Josh Barrett. "I just play…that's all I do," commented a pragmatic McFoy.

The safety does however credit defensive leaders and fellow safeties Barrett and Zach Catanese, as being effective teachers who have aided him in his development. "They have helped me a lot," he said, "because in high school I had no one to look up to and now I have someone to look up to and see how they work."

After two straight landslide defeats against ranked opponents, McFoy and his teammates are itching to get back to the gridiron and unleash their frustrations. "We were mad and we don't want that to happen again," he noted, "and we told ourselves were going to come out as a team and practice hard, not (mess around) and get ready for USC."

The freshman safety remains optimistic heading into the road game at the L.A. Coliseum. His formula for a victory is quite simple: "Starting out quick and putting some points on the board and we'll be all right." And backing up that trash talking and have family bragging rights, would just be the icing on the cake…
