Here's is how ASU's first-year players faired against Washington in the 26-23 OT win.

The defense, including some team newcomers, came up big in ASU's thrilling 26-23 overtime victory in Seattle. The defense pressured Husky quarterback Johnny DuRocher into throwing three straight incompletions that allowed ASU QB Rudy Carpenter to connect with Brent Miller on the ensuing possession to win the game for Arizona State.

True freshman safety Ryan McFoy collected 3 solo tackles and 1 assisted stop while cornerback Justin Tryon had 2 tackles and a pair of pass break ups. The two defensive backs contributed to a pass defense that held the Huskies to just 148 yards through the air and forced two Washington turnovers.

Michael Marquardt has been one of the defensive line's most consistent performers this season. The tackle collected 3 tackles, one of those being for a loss, and a pass break up. Tranell Morant also saw some limited time against the Huskies and registered a tackle.

The freshmen linebacking trio of Travis Goethel, Mike Nixon, and Gerald Munns all got snaps on Saturday. Nixon and Munns combined for 4 stops in the game.

Ryan Torain carried the ball 23 times for 98 yards against a Husky rushing defense that was kept off balance for much of the game. Torain's grinding style helped soften up the defense for two Keegan Herring scores on the ground.

Making his Sun Devil debut against the Huskies on Saturday was true freshman Kyle Williams. The receiver's play making abilities prompted head coach Dirk Koetter to toss the redshirt out and use the speedster on special teams and certain passing situations. Williams caught his first pass in the third quarter for a 2-yard gain. The freshman also returned a punt for 6 yards and a kickoff for 8 yards.

Punter Jonathan Johnson regrouped after a 24-yard shank that set up a Husky score in the 4th quarter. Johnson boomed a 55 yarder in his next punt attempt that went to the Washington 26-yard line. The junior punted 7 times for a 38.6 yard average in the game.
