Louisiana Defensive Tackle to Visit ASU

At 6-0 310 Jonathan English is certainly not your typical defensive tackle. This may explain why some schools have not offered him. Judging by his accomplishments at John Curtis Christian High School in River Ridge, LA, he just may have those who decided to pass on him regret their actions. The Sun Devils don't want to take that chance and will entertain English this weekend in Tempe.

"He's an explosive player who has great speed for his size," Patriots Head Coach J.T. Curtis told DevilsDigest.com. "He's a shorter three-technique nose guard who's very physical. He is a clog in the middle that often takes on double and triple teams and does a great job stopping the run." Curtis added that his defense played an equal number of snaps at both a 4-3 and 3-4 alignment and that English excelled in both schemes.

As a junior, Jonathan English tallied 102 tackles, 11 sacks, and had two interceptions. As a senior he registered 117 Tackles (eight for loss), 23 QB Hurries, 11 Sacks, five caused fumbles, two pass deflections, and two fumble recoveries. The most remarkable stat that English may have is that one of his interceptions was returned for a touchdown.

Post-season honors for the defensive tackle include All-Metro New Orleans Defensive MVP, All-East Jefferson Parish Defensive MVP, All-District, and All-State. English also participated in Max Emfinger's 2007 All-American All-Star Game.

"Arizona State has been recruiting him for a couple of weeks now and they have offered him a scholarship," said Coach Curtis. "He's really looking forward to that visit. He also has offers from Oklahoma State and Memphis. Wisconsin and LSU have been showing some interest."
