JC transfer, Brian Flores, looked great in his debut, as he picked up his first win in a Sun Devil uniform. Flores was limited to just five innings after the Devils lit up the scoreboard early, but he looked great in his limited debut, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five.
The Devils gave Flores an early lead by scoring five runs in the first inning and nine more in the fourth. The nine run fourth was sparked by North Carolina transfer, Matt Spencer's two-run homer. Spencer finished the day 1-for-1 with two runs scored and four RBI's in his Devil debut. Fellow transfer, Tim Smith, also hit a homerun in his first game as a Devil, going 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI's. Sophomore first baseman, Brett Wallace, led the Devils with three hits on the night. He also scored two runs and drove in two. Returning stars, Ike Davis, Eric Sogard, and Petey Paramore each had two hits in the game.
The bullpen also came up big for the Devils, as a pair of local freshman, Jason Mitchell and Adam Bailey, came through with four scoreless innings in relief of Flores. Bailey, who was a teammate of Davis at Chaparall H.S., struck out five of the six batters he faced in his two innings of work.
The Devils return to action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. Junior Josh Satow is scheduled to take the mound for the Devils.
