Clock Ticks Down, Prospects Still Undecided

On Wednesday the fax machines at the ASU football office will churn out more than 16 signed letters of intent that will comprise the 2007 recruiting class. The origin of some of those faxes remains unknown, but the speculation is what makes this time of year exciting and frustrating as one. We present, in no particular order, the prospects that the Sun Devils still have a chance at landing.

Omar Bolden – Up until last Thursday, the Ontario (Calif.) cornerback was still mulling whether he should chose Arizona State or Oregon State. A surprise visit from good friend and USC commit Jordan Campbell swept him on a last minute trip to the Trojans – Bolden's dream destination. The Pac-10 champs, who all but ignored Bolden until last week, put the full court press coupled with a scholarship offer. The question remains whether USC has sealed the deal with this four-star prospect or does he put more weight on eth schools that have been courting him for much longer. Bolden is scheduled to make his announcement on a recruiting TV show on Fox Sports Southern California on Wednesday evening. Thus, his faxed letter is likely to arrive at the school of his choice before that time.

(pictured) Jabaal Sheard – ASU is the only school west of the Mississippi that this Florida defensive end has visited. Yet, the fact that his trip to Tempe was the last one he took may negate that potentially adverse aforementioned fact. The Hollywood Hills standout is reportedly struggling with his decision and the Sun Devils surely have a battle on their hands as they join Auburn, Rutgers and Pittsburgh in Sheard's short list.

Romeo Pellum (pictured)– The Santa Fe Springs (Calif.) standout is being quoted as a Washington State commit that hasn't eliminated Arizona State, even though he's knows that he will sign with Washington State. Confused? Welcome to unpredictable world of recruiting. It would be probably be somewhat of a surprise if the cornerback did ultimately ink his name with the Sun Devils.

David Ross – Another committed cornerback who just hasn't quite closed off his recruitment. Aside from Nebraska, the school he committed to back in the middle of December, the Dominquez (Calif.) High School star is considering ASU and Oregon State. Ross has been very hard to read in regards to where he's leaning, and is just another prospect that probably won't shock anyone with his decision where to sign.

Blaine Irby (pictured)– Do you believe in miracles? Irby coming to ASU, as highly unlikely as it may seem, will undoubtedly make him the jewel crown of the 2007 recruiting class. Even though he's a Texas commit, the tight end's connections to ASU are well documented. He grew up a Sun Devils fans and went to high school in Tempe. His godfather is ASU's Offensive Coordinator Rich Olson, and he's good friends with Samson Szakacsy – the quarterback who de-committed from USC in favor of ASU. Cross your fingers Sun Devil fans and your wildest improbable recruiting dream could come true.

The list of players in this article and their chances of signing with ASU is obviously a snapshot of where things stand at the time this article was written. It's certainly possible that some of the players will make their intentions known before Wednesday, but it's never official until that much anticipated signature is placed of the Letter of Intent. Until then, try and enjoying the waiting game…
