Post-Game Notes

Which recruits visited Sun Devil Stadium for the EWU game? Where do some of them stand in regards to their chances of playing for the maroon and gold? Which NFL scouts were in attendance, and who were they looking at? Find out in this edition of Post-Game Notes.

As with every ASU game, the local recruiting targets for ASU were in full force on the sidelines. Tyrice Thompson is a nice looking 6-4 WR from South Mountain, He was very coy about wanting to be a Sun Devil, but the prospects of playing with fellow high school alums Jason Shivers and Joey Smith was appealing. OL Mikal Brewer's presence was a bit ironic. He doesn't list ASU as one of his favorites, and he spent last week in Nebraska watching the Huskers beat the Sun Devils. Nevertheless, one can interpret his presence at Sun Devil stadium as a sign that he may be more receptive to the idea of being recruited by the Devils. Another OL in attendance is Michael Pollock who does for all purposes list ASU as his leader. Chances are good that he'll be wearing the maroon and gold, but he's in no hurry to decide.

Two of ASU's verbal commitments were standing side by side – DL Brett Palmer and ATH Brent Miller. Palmer told us that he will try and convince his buddy, coveted DL Kyle Caldwell, to join the ASU ranks, but he would be shocked if Caldwell would verbal to any school before December/January. Miller's twin brother Zach and fellow Desert Vista teammate Jarret Says were also at SDS.

The ASU coaches constantly mobbed linebacker Ammon Wolfley from Peoria HS. As reported here earlier in the year. The Sun Devils are waiting to see him in some high school games, before extending him an offer. Nevertheless, they are interested, as his Wolfley in ASU. Overall, he's another local product that more than likely will be playing his Saturdays at Sun Devil Stadium. Other local recruits included Erick Eshaz from Tempe HS, Dustin Fourtane (sp?) from Hamilton HS, and Michael Sparks from Mountain View. There was also a big contingent of players from Beverly Hills HS, and Glendale CC.

Tight End Mike Pinkard and Linebacker Solomon Bates are two players that are garnering the attention of NFL scouts. Suffice to say that after the EWU game. The Linebacker tandem of Mason Unck and Josh Amobi are enjoying some pro scouts eyes on them. The NFL scouts, despite his proclamation that he won't opt for the NFL draft this year, are hardly ignoring Junior Terell Suggs. The Patriots' scout has been already to some of ASU's practices. In the EWU game scouts from the Bills, Steelers, Cardinals, and 49ers were in attendance. When the after mentioned players didn't play in the fourth quarter, that's about the time they headed off to the exits.
