The Devils got a strong pitching performance from junior lefthander, Josh Satow. Satow improved his record to 3-1 on the season, after allowing just three runs on two hits while striking out six in 5.1 innings of work. The bullpen was even more impressive, as a pair of freshman, Mike Leake and Jason Mitchell, closed out the final 3.2 innings allowing just one hit and no runs.
Offensively, the Devils produced the 11 runs on 13 hits. The Devils also benefited from the UAB pitching staff's lack of control, as the Blazer pitchers combined for seven walks, and three wild pitches. With the game tied at one, the Devils opened things up in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring six times to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Second baseman, Eric Sogard, led the Devils with his four-hit performance. Sogard went 4-for-5 on the night, with two runs scored and one RBI. Sophomores, Brett Wallace and Ike Davis, each had a pair of hits. Davis also scored one run and drove in two for the Devils.
The Devils and Blazers will be back in action this afternoon, as the two teams square off at 1 p.m. Brian Flores will be taking the mound for the Devils, as they go for their third straight win.
