Devils Sweep Blazers

The Arizona State Sun Devil baseball team got back on track this weekend by completing the impressive sweep of the UAB Blazers on Sunday. The Devils lit up the scoreboard for the third straight day, defeating the Blazers by a score of 12-5. The win was the fourth straight for the Devils and helped to improve their record to 10-3 on the season.

The Devils needed to rebound after last week's disappointing showing at the Coca-Cola Classic, where the Devils dropped two of their three games, and did so in impressive fashion by outscoring the Blazers 36 to 10 in the series.

The Devils got the scoring started early, as the Devils scored three times in the first to jump out in front. Sophomore catcher, Petey Paramore, drove in two runs in the inning on a two-run single up the middle. Paramore led all Devils with three hits on the day. He finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and three RBI's. The Devils went on to add four more runs in the second, and never looked back. Eric Sogard, Brett Wallace, and Matt Spencer had two hits apiece. Wallace added two runs and three RBI's for the Devils, two of which came on his two-run blast over the right field fence in the fifth inning. Sogard added three runs and Spencer drove in one. Right fielder, Ike Davis, had just one hit in four at bats, but he was able to score two runs and drive in one. Outfielder, Ryan Sontag, and catcher, Kiel Rolling, each drove in two runs on the day.

Five Sun Devil hurlers saw action in today's game, with freshman, Joe Hatasaki getting the start. Hatasaki lasted just 2.2 innings in his debut, but only allowed one run on two hits. JC transfer, Dustin Brader, picked up his first career win as a Sun Devil in relief. Brader pitched four solid innings for the Devils, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four.

The Devils will look to continue their winning streak on Tuesday, when they battle instate rival, University of Arizona Wildcats, down in Tucson in a non-conference match up. From there, the Devils will travel to Alabama to face the Auburn Tigers in a three-game set.
