Schlink Feeling the Love from the Sun Devils

ASU has always prided themselves in keeping the Phoenix-area talent close to home and donning the maroon and gold. The Sun Devils have identified the top in-state players of the 2008 recruiting class and has been recruiting them in earnest. One such player is Centennial High School (Peoria, Ariz.) offensive tackle Zach Schlink, who received an offer from ASU a couple weeks back.

"Arizona State has been recruiting me since my sophomore year," said the 6-4 280 Zach Schlink. "I feel like ever since Coach Erickson came to ASU they have been recruiting me harder than before…It's a good program that did OK last year, and will improve this year."

The Sun Devils offered the tackle on Feb. 21st by tight ends coach Dan Cozzetto. Arizona, Nevada and San Diego State extended scholarship offers before the Sun Devils did. Since the ASU offer, Colorado State has registered an offer as well. "Stanford is talking a lot to me lately," Schlink remarked. "San Diego State, Oregon State and UCLA have been recruiting pretty hard too." In previous interviews Schlink expressed interest in USC and Michigan who have been recruiting him to a lesser degree compared to the other aforementioned schools.

Schlink stated that he doesn't have a strong desire to stay close to home, and certainly isn't ruling out leaving the state to play college ball. "It would be nice to stay close to home," he noted. "But if a big school from out of state offers me I might go there. Recruiting is kinda of fun now, I'm still enjoying it. I'm getting more letters and phone calls that I ever have, but I don't see myself making a decision soon."

At right tackle, Schlink was a key offensive component in leading Centennial to a perfect 14-0 record and a 5A-II state title as a junior. His post-season awards included the Arizona Republic 5A All-State team, as well as All-Region honors. "I'm a good run and pass blocker, but I need to work on speed," he said of his skills.

Schlink indicated that he plans on taking in some ASU spring practices later this month, and plans to attend the team camp in June. The Southern California and Nike combines are other events he's planning on attending in the upcoming months.
