Devils Comeback Against Dirtbags

The #11 Arizona State Sun Devils were able to get back in the win column Friday night, with an exciting 7-6 victory over the #19 Long Beach State Dirtbags. Sun Devil second baseman and Preseason All-American, Eric Sogard, was the hero of the night for the Devils, as he blasted two homeruns. The win was a much-needed one, after the Devils dropped the last two games of last weekend's series.

Sogard got the scoring started in the bottom of the first, with a solo shot that put the Devils on top 1-0. The Dirtbags took a 4-1 lead after scoring four times in the fourth off Sun Devil starter, Josh Satow. The Devils didn't give up the lead for long, as they came right back to score four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Shortstop, Andrew Romine, drove in two runs in the inning with a two-run single up the middle.

The Devils would hold the 5-4 lead until the seventh inning, when the Dirtbags scored twice off relief pitcher, Mike Leake. The Devils bounced back in the eighth thanks once again to the big bat of Eric Sogard. With two outs in the inning, Sogard ripped his second homerun of the game, a two run shot onto Rural Road, which put the Devils up for good. Leake picked up the win for the Devils, improving his record to 4-1 on the year.

The two teams will be back at it Saturday at 1 p.m.
