Deboskie Feels Sun Devil Recruiting Intensity

Covaughn Deboskie has been one of the prime in-state targets of the Sun Devils. The interest is mutual, as these days the Chandler Hamilton running back has been taking in ASU's spring practices. The Huskies' standout told Devils Digest that the maroon and gold are definitely emerging as one of his strongest suitors in the recruiting process.

"They've been giving me a lot of information about what their plans are for next year," said the 5-11 185 Covaughn Deboskie. "They tell me how they feel about me coming to the program and really are welcoming me with open arms. They really have been showing me a lot of attention now and a lot of interest and that's something that makes me comfortable." He added that he plans to go to as many spring practices as he can. However, he will have to miss ASU's spring game due to the fact that it falls on prom night.

Deboskie stated that the fact that the Sun Devils haven't signed any freshman running backs in this recruiting class, coupled with the fact that the ASU tailback core will be upper-class heavy in 2008, shows the genuine interest that his hometown college has in him. "They need young running backs and they didn't sign anyone," he explained. "So the fact that they're recruiting me means a lot."

He added that Coach Erickson has made future plans to meet with him individually, as well as with representatives from the College of Business, the major that Deboskie looks to pursue. "I'm looking forward to meeting with those individuals," commented Deboskie who has a 4.16 GPA and a score of 1380 on his SAT.

The running back listed UCLA, Arizona, South Carolina, Stanford and Cal as other schools who have been recruiting him in earnest. "I plan to (unofficially) visit Cal and Arizona, that's where my dad lives," he said. "Right now I have no plans to visit anyone else."

Deboskie honestly can't tell his timetable for when he will make his verbal pledge. "It's a big decision about where you're going to spend the next four years of your life," he explained. "So you want to make the right decision. Once I know what school I feel the most comfortable in, that's where I'm going to go to. You just want to make sure that everything is perfect."

The running back, who won the 5A State title with Hamilton, was selected first team All-Fiesta Region, and was an honorable mention in the Arizona Republic's 5A All-State team. He was clocked at a Nike Combine earlier this year running a 4.48. In 2006 he tallied 150 caries for 1,304 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also collected two receiving touchdowns.
