Devils Blank Trojans in Pac-10 Opener

The #17 Arizona State Sun Devils opened up Pac-10 play in grand fashion Friday night, as they dominated the #19 USC Trojans 10-0 in L.A. The Devils improved their record to 20-7 on the season, and 1-0 in conference.

The Devils came out firing, scoring two runs in each of the first four innings. It was plenty of run support for Sun Devil starter, Josh Satow, who was nearly untouchable on the night. Satow (7-1) was brilliant on the mound, as he went the distance to pick up his seventh win of the season. Satow allowed just six hits on the night while striking out six. He kept the Trojan hitters off balance all night with an array of off speed pitches.

The Devils were ripping the ball to all parts of the field, recording 14 hits on the night including two long balls. First baseman, Brett Wallace was the first Devil to go yard, as he belted a two-run shot over the centerfield wall in the second inning to put the Devils up 4-0. Two innings later, catcher Petey Paramore blasted a slider on the inside part of the plate over the left field wall that gave the Devils a commanding 8-0 lead.

Wallace led all Devils with three hits on the night. He also scored a run and drove in two. Eric Sogard, Matt Spencer, and Rocky Laguna, all recorded two hits in the game for the Sun Devils.

The two teams will be back at it tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
