Devils Trounce Cardinal, Sweep Series

The 12th ranked Devils kept on rolling Saturday afternoon, as they pulled off the three-game sweep of the Stanford Cardinal with an impressive 14-1 win.

DH Kiel Roling had a huge day for the Devils. The sophomore blasted two monster homeruns to help the Devils jump out to an early lead. The Devils scored in each of the first five innings to take a commanding 13-0 advantage, which would be more than enough run support for Sun Devil starter Brian Flores. Flores almost went the distance while picking up his sixth win of the season. Flores (6-1, 2.70 ERA) gave up just one run on four hits while striking out seven in 8.1 innings of work.

Offensively, the Devils amassed 16 hits with 12 different players recording at least one hit. Leadoff man and left fielder, Tim Smith, went 2-for-4 with three runs and four RBI's. Catcher, Petey Paramore, and Kiel Roling had two hits apiece. Paramore added a run and three RBI's, while Roling scored twice and drove in four runs for the Devils. Roling now has 10 homeruns on the year, just one behind team leader Brett Wallace. Not bad, considering Roling was added to the team in January after transferring at the last minute from Central Arizona College. Roling is now batting .400 on the season, and he's also second on the team in RBI's with 43, trailing Wallace by just six.

The win was the fifth straight for the Devils, who are now 26-10 on the year and 7-2 in Pac-10 play. The Devils will be back in action next Friday, as they host the Washington State Cougars for a three game series.
