Q&A with Allante Battle

He may not be considered the top 2008 prospect from Arizona, but few can match the athleticism of Allante Battle. The first-team all region WR (and 2nd team all-region as a CB) scored nine TD's last year for Desert Vista, but more impressively won the state championship in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes. He was recently offered by ASU and Devils Digest talked to him about his recruitment.

DevilsDigest: Were you expecting the offer from the hometown Sun Devils?

Allante Battle: "I was a little surprised. They haven't been recruiting me as hard as other teams."

DD: Who has offered you before Arizona State?

AB: "Arizona (first school to offer), Oregon State, Utah, Washington and San Diego."

DD: Tell us about your skills, what are your strong suits and what are some areas for improvement?

AB: "My speed is a strong point. I just need to work on my technique and knowing the game."

DD: What position do you prefer to play in college?

AB: "I prefer to play wide receiver. That's the position Coach Cozzetto from ASU is recruiting me as."

DD: In the state's Track and Field championship you won the 100, 200, and 400 meter races and you posted personal bests in all three events. Did you expect to come on top in all three events?

AB: "Not really. I just went out there trying to do my best."

DD: Since your father, Greg, played for ASU, how much is that going to be a factor in your recruitment?

AB: "My dad isn't really talking about me going to ASU. He will back me up in whatever I do. Following ASU, I do know more about that school than the others recruiting me."

DD: On that note, what are your thoughts about staying close to home when going to college?

AB: "I'm not sure about that right now. I haven't made up my mind yet."

DD: So when it is time to choose a school, what factors will you look at?

AB: "Playing time and how I will factor in on the team playing offense or defense."
