San Jacinto OL Impressed with ASU Visit

Ryan Dannewitz visited Tempe last Friday and enjoyed his venture to the Valley of the Sun. Was it enough to vault the Sun Devils to his short list of favorite schools? Devils Digest caught up with the offensive tackle, who also visited University of Arizona this past weekend.

"It was a great visit," said the 6-6 280 Ryan Dannewitz. "I got to see the facilities, the campus, talk to Coach Lubick who's recruiting me and the rest of the coaches. Going there I knew what to expect and all my expectations were met." Following his trip to ASU, Dannewitz headed south down the I-10 to visit the Wildcats. "Tucson is more of a college town," he remarked, "but as far as facilities and everything else both schools were the same."

Some of his familiarity with Arizona State comes from his San Jacinto High School teammate and incoming ASU freshman Chasen Stangel. "He did talk to me about the school and how much he loves it," Dannewitz stated. "It would be cool to play with him in college, but it really won't play a factor in my decision where to go."

Dannewitz was an all-state underclass selection in 2006, and was also selected to the all-CIF-SS team after helping San Jacinto (Calif.) to the divisional finals. He bench presses 290 pounds; power cleans 225 and has a vertical jump of 23". "I need to work on my footwork, strength and conditioning," he said of his skills. "I do a good job protecting the blind side of the quarterback." He added that he's being recruited exclusively as an offensive tackle.

With a 3.4 core GPA and a score of 1310 on his three-part SAT (900 on the two-part SAT) Dannewitz is already qualified. He noted that he may go to a couple of team camps this summer, but hasn't settled yet on destinations, etc. "I could go to the ASU camp," he said. "I just have to sit down with my parents and see which ones I'm gonna end up going to."

While the lineman admitted that ASU is a school that he's considering more than he did before his visit, he doesn't place the Sun Devils in a top-three or top-five list, due to the fact that he simply doesn't have such a list to begin with. "This summer I'm gonna take time to narrow my list of schools and see which ones I'm gonna (officially) visit," he explained. "I probably won't take any official visits before my season ends, so I'm not gonna make a decision before then."
