Colorado OL Names ASU His Favorite

Alec Johnson, a standout center at Denver Mullen, is not getting a lot of love from his hometown school. However, they're plenty of programs outside of Colorado that are showing strong interest and tendering offers. The center told Devils Digest that out of all the programs pursuing him, the Sun Devils are his top choice.

"Coach Lubick is recruiting me and I really like Arizona State," said the 6-4 295 Alec Johnson. "They're a winning program and I like them a lot. They started contacting me a few months back and they offered me a month and half ago."

Washington, Colorado State, Utah, and Kansas have all extended offers as well, and geographic location will never be a factor that will sway Johnson's eventual decision. "I just want to play football, so I don't care how far from home I go," he explained. "It would be nice to get out of state because I've been there my entire life."

Johnson noted that the ASU coaches like him as a center, and aren't recruiting him with a possibility of coming in as a guard. "I have good feet, play smart, and I'm a hard worker," commented Johnson who was voted 1st team all conference last year. "Everyone wants to get stronger and faster, so that's something I need to work on."

Johnson attended the UCLA, Kansas and Colorado camps. Yet the schools he plans to visit officially differ for the most part from his camp destinations. "Arizona State, Kansas and maybe Utah are the schools I want to take official visits to," he said. "My top school is Arizona State. I don't really have another school I would call a favorite."

In regards to his timetable for a decision, the center is a bit conflicted. "I want to make a decision before the season starts so I can have the pressure off of me for my senior season," he remarked. "But I also want to visit the school before I commit to it."

Academics are one factor that will weigh heavy in his recruiting. With a GPA of 3.6, an ACT score of 21, and an SAT mark of 1500 (scores that qualify his academically), it's no wonder why he places so much value on this issue.
