Sun Devils Visit Cunningham

The ASU coaches have intently followed four-star 2009 prospect Jared Cunningham during the various July AAU tournaments. Since then the maroon and gold have stepped up their recruitment of the Bay Area point guard. Devils Digest spoke to Cunningham to get his thoughts on his recruitment by ASU.

The 6-2 160 Jared Cunningham, ranked by as the eighth best point guard in the nation in his class. When asked about his ASU recruitment Cunningham said, "Arizona State is showing a lot of interest, and I really like the coaching staff and the fact that they really need a point guard. (Assistant Head) Coach Pera is a wonderful person that I know can really help my game."

Up until last year, Cunningham has played the forward position more often than the guard one. During the AAU tournament circuit he got to showcase his new position and is pleased that his recruitment has picked up as a result of that. "I really got to show how versatile I am and that I can play point guard," he said.

Santa Clara is the only school that offered him a scholarship to date, but the guard told us that he's expecting in the next few weeks to get more offers from the schools he already unofficially visited or about to unofficially visit in the fall. "I already visited Cal," he commented. "I'm gonna visit Arizona State on October 20. On October 27th I'm gonna visit Gonzaga and Washington State…being away from home doesn't bother me. Wherever the best program for me is that's where I'm gonna go to."

The heavy recruitment Cunningham is receiving doesn't bother him at the least, and he claimed he enjoys talking to the various coaches in the running for his services. On the other hand, there's a chance that he may pledge in the next couple of months. "I could see myself making a decision before my season starts and just getting the recruiting over with," he said.

Cunningham reported a 2.9 GPA and will take the SAT test for the first time in December.
