Decision Nearing For Dufault?

Sun Devil prospect Austin Dufault has taken three official visits to date, the last one being to Colorado this past weekend. Are those three the only schools on the forward's short list of favorites or will he take his full allotment of official trips before the November signing day? Devils Digest caught up with Dufault to get the latest on his recruiting.

The 6-8 210 Austin Dufault visited Arizona State and North Dakota State earlier in the month. So how did his trip to Boulder compare to Tempe and Fargo? "The area was a lot different than the other two places," said the Killdeer, N.D. standout. "It's like a campus outside of Denver, but it's far enough to be its own town. I got to see the coaches and players in individual workouts, and that was nice to see."

As enjoyable as that visit was, it wasn't enough for Dufault to pull the trigger and settle on the Buffaloes, or consider a pledge to Sun Devils or Bison. In fact, he noted that: "All three schools are equal. Honestly, they're 1A, 1B, 1C for me. None of them have anything I absolutely dislike about them, and all them have different things I liked about each of them. They all are good programs, who have good coaches and good players."

Furthermore, the forward told us that by the end of the week he will decide if those are the only three colleges he will consider attending, or will he expand his recruitment and take one or two more official visits to explore some of his other suitors.

"I'm gonna sit down with my parents and make a decision in the near future," stated Dufault. "There are still a few schools I'm interested like Minnesota, Washington State because they were one of the first ones to recruit me, and Creighton."

"If I were to take a visit those are the three schools I would consider visiting. I‘m pretty happy with the schools I visited so far, but I want to sit down with my parents and see if I should visit other schools or not…I would say that it's a 50-50 chance of me not taking anymore visits an take one or two more."

The forward noted that USC started recruiting him as well, although all contact thus far has been via mail.

Dufault, who turned many heads with his play in the "A" championship game at the Reebok Summer Championship in Las Vegas, as well as his open gym sessions back home in Killdeer, has also excelled on the gridiron this year.

He plays wide receiver and tight end for his team and has been one of the offensive leaders on his squad. "We're 4-1 this year and our only loss was to the best team in the state," he commented. "I have three receiving touchdowns and I threw for a touchdown on a fake punt. I have somewhere between 200 and 300 yards receiving."

The forward reiterated that distance from home will not dictate his decision since "If I go to school in Fargo, my parents will drive five hours and if I go to school in Tempe or Denver they will fly four hours," said Dufault. "Either way – they're traveling for a few hours to see me play."

Dufault remarked that whether he takes more visits or not, he does expect to make his decision known in October, and won't stretch it closer to the November 14th signing day.

With a 26 score on his ACT and a 3.8 GPA Dufault is academically qualified.
