Newcomer Report

Anyone who had the Sun Devils penciled in for a 7-0 start after looking at the favorable schedule can breathe a sigh of relief now. The 44-20 win over Washington on Saturday night positions the Maroon & Gold with a golden opportunity to make a big impression nationally in two weeks when they host Cal. Here are contributions of ASU's first-year players in the win over the Huskies.

The defense came up big again in the second half by holding the Huskies to just three points in the final two frames. Defensive end Luis Vasquez notched five stops and a partial sack on Husky quarterback Jake Locker. Freshman defensive tackle Jonathan English came in off the bench and added a solo stop. Junior safety Troy Nolan intercepted his fifth pass of the season and ran it back for a 35-yard score late in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory. Nolan also chipped in a pair of stops for the defense.

Thomas Weber remains perfect on the season with three more field goals made against the Huskies. The specialist nailed attempts from 20, 24, and 33 yards out and has now made fourteen straight field goals. Weber also finished with two tackles a 41 yard average on five punts.
