Newcomer Report

Arizona State's eight-game win streak came to end on a chilly evening in Eugene, Oregon as the Ducks protected their home turf against the visitors from Tempe. The 35-23 loss moved the Sun Devils out of the top 5 to the #9 spot in the latest BCS rankings. With an 8-1 record, however, ASU resumes play next weekend with plenty left to play for. Here's how ASU's newcomers faired in this contest.

Omar Bolden continued his true freshman campaign at the cornerback spot opposite senior Justin Tryon. Bolden finished with three stops and two pass break ups. Safety Troy Nolan also notched eight tackles to lead the secondary.

Defensive end Luis Vasquez recorded three stops, including one tackle for a loss. Vasquez also recovered an Oregon fumble.

Kerry Taylor caught one pass from quarterback Rudy Carpenter for a 9-yard gain.

Specialist Thomas Weber's leg was tested once again on the road. The redshirt freshman went 3 of 4 on field goal attempts, including a successful conversion from 50 yards out. The 32-yard miss right before halftime was Weber's first of the season. Weber also had five punts for a 41.6 yard average. His longest punt of the game went for 50 yards.

Other game participants were Jamarr Robinson, Jeff Bereuter, Garrett Judah, Morris Wooten, Jon Hargis, and Jonathan English.
