Tuesday's Post-Practice Quotes

ASU's Head Coach Dennis Erickson addressed the media as the Sun Devils begin practices for the UCLA game.

(On the status of Paul Fanaika and Chris McGaha)

"He (Fanaika) looked good. We didn't put him in any contact stuff, but he ran around pretty well and I thought he moved exceptionally well when (the team trainer) worked with him…he'll be able to play Saturday. McGaha is fine."

(On the status of Dane Guthrie)

"Dane Guthrie – we just found out today that he has a little concussion. We didn't even realize until today. We'll have to wait and see because they give you those tests, and it pretty much tells you whether he can or can't (practice). Right now he's questionable."

(On Mike Nixon lining up at first team SAM alongside Wooten at MIKE)

"He (Nixon) will play both MIKE and SAM. We got Gerald Munns back full speed and that's how it was before (Munns' injury)."

(On whether any of the players that were out last weekend can return for the UCLA game )

"No…(Jeremy) Payton will back for USC but not this week."

(the fact that UCLA has a seldom-used quarterback in Osaar Rasshan – do you expect for the coaches to design new packages for him)

"I'm sure that they're gonna do that. You watch him when he played and he's very athletic, he moves around, he's big, he's fast…I would assume that they're gonna develop some kind of package involving him, keeping the football, some option stuff, bootleg…things like that to get him on the corner. I know that's what I would do. I don't know what they're planning, but it will be within what they do. They won't invent a brand new offense."

Erickson added that he expects to see some variations of a spread offense out of UCLA now that Rasshan is the signal caller. However he doesn't expect to see a full blown version of the spread offense, since implementing that scheme is something that can't be done in just a matter of a couple of weeks.
