Womble Will End Visit Circuit at ASU

Sierra Vista (Ariz.) standout Jamal Womble grew up in North Carolina and his strongest suitors, let alone all of his visits, have come east of the Mississippi. The success of the Sun Devils coupled with a personal situation, have caused the 5-10 215 running back to seriously consider a school closer to home. Devils Digest caught up with Womble and got the latest on his recruitment with ASU.

"I'm gonna visit ASU on December 1st," said Jamal Womble. "I had some visits (dates) open, and they're a good program with good stable of coaches. They're an impressive team and I like how they run the ball. They're no reason not to give them a good look." Womble added that he never had a chance to visit the Sun Devils unofficially, so this upcoming trip will truly be a new experience for him.

Womble has taken visits to Boston College and North Carolina, and will trip to South Carolina this weekend. Nebraska and Wisconsin were supposed to round out his five allotted official visits, and since both schools canceled scheduled trips with the running back that opened the door for Arizona State to be slotted as the final visit destination. "I'm only gonna take four visits and Arizona State will be my last," he remarked.

The Colts of Buena High School finished 3-7 on the year, which didn't prevent Womble from having a stellar 2007 campaign. The running back reported season totals of 1,800 rushing yards and 21 TD's. "Personally it was a good season," he stated. "But as a team we didn't play well. I think I need to improve on everything about my game. I guess speed is something I improved on a lot this year. My fastest time is a 4.37."

Womble moved to the Grand Canyon state a year and a half ago, because of his father's military obligations. He mentioned that his father will be deployed to Iraq next month, which will naturally extend his family's stay in Sierra Vista. The running back admitted that these circumstances are another reason why he has been showing interest in the maroon and gold.

The running back, who is academically qualified, commented that the timeframe for his decision is a vast one. "I could decide right after my last visit and I could wait until signing day."
