Guy Commits to Sun Devils, Carr Signs LOI

On a day that should have been highlighted by mid-year transfer JC signees, ASU landed one of its most coveted high school prospects. Four-star defensive lineman, Lawrence Guy, committed to ASU Wednesday afternoon. Earlier in the day, Pasadena City College Cornerback Terell Carr faxed his Letter of Intent to the maroon and gold and will enroll in school in the spring.

DevilsDigest.com has been able to independently confirm previous reports that Las Vegas Western High School star Lawrence Guy, ranked as the #6 defensive tackle by Scout.com, pledged to Arizona State. In Western's 8-3 campaign this season, the 6-5 250 Guy has tallied 120 tackles, over 60 of them solo stops, and 20 sacks.

Guy sported 15 offers from all across the country. Aside from visiting ASU, he tripped to Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Arizona. Devils Digest has learned that Guy ultimately chose between the Sun Devils and Sooners.

"I'm a great pass rusher," Guy said in a previous Scout.com interview. "I come off the edge fast and can get to the quarterback. I can just shut down everything on the outside. It's hard to get around me and I don't let the tight end get down the field. I still want to get even faster because speed is the key in college."

Guy is ASU's 16th know commitment of the 2008 recruiting class.

On Wednesday morning, Terell Carr officially became the first member of that class, when he faxed his signed Letter of Intent on the first day mid-year transfers could do so. The 5-9 180 Carr registered 47 tackles, seven interceptions and 13 pass breakups in 2007. "I'm a good cover guy and I play well against the run," he said of his skills. "I can probably do a better job defending the fade routes."

Aside from the Sun Devils, Carr has received offers from Tulsa and UTEP. West Virginia was a school he was scheduled to visit, but he canceled that visit after committing to ASU on December 2nd.

Devils Digest talked to Carr just moments after faxing his LOI to Tempe. "Man, I'm excited to be a Sun Devil," he remarked. "They're a great team. They went 10-2 and going to a bowl game. They're gonna be a good team next year and I know I have a chance to play early."
