DT Quickly Garners Attention of Sun Devils

Much like other Pac-10 teams, Arizona Sate receives dozens of unsolicited prospect highlight films every season. Naturally, just a few of them stand out above the rest, and one of those prospects that has caught the eye of the Sun Devil staff is 6-1 285 Greg Grimes. Devils Digest talked to the Sacramento defensive tackle and his recruitment with the maroon and gold.

"Arizona State has been recruiting me for a couple of weeks," said Greg Grimes. "I sent some schools my highlight tape, and (ASU Running Backs) Coach Christian gave my mother a call a few days after I sent it in. He said that this is one of the best defensive tackle highlight films he's seen and that he wanted me to come down for a visit."

The Inderkum High School standout hasn't received a scholarship offer from ASU, but told us that he felt it come during his visit on Jan. 11th. To date he has received offers from San Diego State, who he tripped to on 12/14 and Utah State who he plans to visit a week after ASU. "Oregon and Washington are recruiting me too," he said. "But I don't have a visit set up with them or anything like that. When I sent out my film, I just did so I can expand my horizons and see what's out there. So maybe I'll have visits with other schools."

Grimes has had some exposure to the Sun Devils, and looks forward to further learning about the program during his visit. "I've been watching them on TV a lot and I like how they play on defense," he remarked. "They're a big time Pac-10 defense. I also went to their campus before, not on a visit, just to look around and I liked it."

During his 2007 senior season, Grimes collected 94 tackles, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, five sacks and four deflections and was named Tri-County Conference Player of the Year and SacBee All-Metro. He Bench presses 315 and runs a 4.9. "I get off the ball quick but I need to work on my technique," he said of his skills.

Grimes reports a 3.1 core GPA and a 1425 SAT, which would academically qualify him.
