Tuitea Commits to Sun Devils

Following his visit that just ended today to Vanderbilt, Westminster (Calif.) tight end Toa Tuitea evaluated both ASU and Vanderbilt en route to making a decision. After mauling the situation just a few hours after coming back home, he decided to pledge to the maroon and gold.

Toa's brother Calvin, who handles the tight end's recruiting, said that he asked his brother to weigh all the positives and negatives on both ASU and Vanderbilt, and make a decision tomorrow after he slept on it. The 6-4 250 Toa Tuitea took some, but not all that advice to heart.

"He compared both situations, and it's basically that both schools will offer him a free education and a chance to play football," said Calvin. "What it came down to is that he just had a better rapport with both the players and coaches at ASU. He decided that he wanted to commit to ASU tonight."

"I asked him where does he see himself living and playing the next five years and he said he wanted to be a Sun Devil. We called Coach Erickson and Coach Lubick and they were very excited. Now he can put all the recruiting process behind him and concentrate on getting bigger, stronger, and faster and getting ready for Saturdays."

Originally the Westminster standout was recruited by the Sun Devils as a defensive end. However, through out the recruiting process the ASU coaches indicated that they would like to take a look at him at tight end as well. "The coaches said once he gets into camp they'll see where he fits on the team," Calvin said in a previous interview to Devils Digest. "He likes both positions. He doesn't care where he plays. He could even gain some weight, get to 290 and be a defensive tackle."

Tuitea has been recruited by ASU for a few months now, and was offered by the maroon and gold a couple of weeks ago. Arizona, Washington State, Hawaii, Mississippi, and Vanderbilt were some of his other offers.

Tuitea's Westminster team finished 8-4 and conference champs, and the ASU commit has been back-to-back Defensive MVP of the conference.

The tight end becomes ASU's 25th known commitment of the 2008 recruiting class.
