Leaning Towards UCLA, but ASU in the Mix

Prior to his ASU visit, Van Nuys (Calif.) Birmingham linebacker Donovan Carter was an UCLA soft commit. That status didn't change after his visit to Tempe, but he hasn't eliminated ASU from consideration. Devils Digest caught up with Carter after the trip to get the latest on his recruitment.

"The visit went real good," said the 6-2 230 Donovan Carter. "The coaches were real cool, the facilities were nice…I just had a good trip. I was hosted by T.J. Simpson and he was cool to hang out with."

"The academics really impressed me. They have real passion for their work. I know that if I did go here I won't struggle and I would get help if I needed it."

One thing does attract Carter to the maroon and gold is the prospect pf playing early. "The coaches said that they're not afraid to play young players if they can help them," he commented. "They're always gonna keep a competitive level there. I really like the style of defense they play."

This week the head coaches of both the schools that Carter is considering will come for in-home visits, and the linebacker is likely to make his decision final by the weekend. "I'm still committed to UCLA, but ASU is right there," he explained. "I'm still leaning towards UCLA."
