Wednesday Post-Practice Quotes

ASU Head Coach Dennis Erickson talked about the upcoming scrimmage on Saturday and other team topics.

Dennis Erickson

On how the team looked today in practice

"Not bad. We did a little short yardage (drills), play action pass…everyday we're gonna scrimmage something else. Like tomorrow we're gonna scrimmage red zone stuff, and we'll have all that Saturday for the really big scrimmage."

On what the structure of that scrimmage will look like

"It will be kind of like it was last year. We'll go 12 with the first group and if the drive continues, we'll continue it. We'll do 1's vs. 1's, 2's vs. 2's, 3's vs. 3's…we'll probably run 90 plays, something like that. When I say that it usually goes to 100."

On the emphasis of implementing new schemes early on in the spring

"We're trying to. We're trying to get into four wides. We're doing some things in our running game a little bit different – we're pulling our (linemen) and stuff like that…we're doing different things in the spread – I feel that we might have to be in that a little more."

On Terrell Carr being the on the first team

"He had a good scrimmage. It will be a battle with him, Crunk (Grant Crunkleton) and Travis (Smith). It will be a battle all spring, probably going into fall camp. The good thing about it is that I feel we have four guys that can really help us, possibly five. The same thing at safety – we have some guys. Jarrell Holman has really practiced well."

On the injured/absent players

"Jovon had a little concussion yesterday, so he wasn't ready to go. We'll see what happens tomorrow. Guthrie (academics) will be back tomorrow…(on Keegan Herring playing in the scrimmage) I don't know. If it's close we won't (mess) with it and those other guys really need looks."
