LB Justin Burks Would Fill Dire Need For ASU

One quick look at ASU's roster reveals that the lack of depth at linebacker next season is quite glaring. The three leading Sun Devils at that position are seniors, and the team returns very little experience in 2003. Thus, it's no surprise that ASU is pursuing this five-star linebacker heavily during the current recruiting season.

"ASU offered a month ago," says the Cerritos Community College standout "I like them because they're a Pac-10 powerhouse." Burks will make the trek to Tempe for his official visit on 12/6. He already visited Florida, and aside form the Devils, he has visits scheduled for North Carolina, Marshall, and LSU. The linebacker indicated that no one of those five schools is favorite over the other. "I'm gonna wait to make my decision until after all my visits."

Burks has some ties to Arizona State. He played against current Sun Devils Mike Williams and Darrell Turner. He said that everybody in the Pac-10 aside from the LA schools was recruiting him, but obviously he liked ASU over and above the conference teams. When we asked him about his skills, he replied: "I'm a big linebacker (6-3 236) that can run (4.5). I'm good at getting at the ball, and I love to tackle. One thing I need to work on is stop trying too hard to get an interception."

Landing Burks, considered by many as the best linebacker in the country, would be a major recruiting coup for ASU. Sun Devils fans can only hope that he would like to stay on the West Coast, since the maroon and gold are the only school this side of the Mississippi that he's visiting.
