ASU Captures Softball Title in Shutout

Prior to Tuesday's World Series championship game, Sun Devil ace pitcher Katie Burkhart talked about being a "shark" and not allowing Texas A&M a chance to jump on the Sun Devils. After blanking the Aggies 11-0, the largest margin ever in a championship clinching game, suffice to say that mission accomplished in a very impressive fashion.

Burkhart continued her domination in the post-season and struck out 13 A&M batters. She had a slim 1-0 after three innings, but a Katie Cochran three run blast in the fifth gave the Lady Sun Devils a 4-0 edge and more breathing room heading into the last few innings.

ASU turned the contest into a laugher plating seven runners in the final frame, and fittingly enough the game ended with a Burkhart strikeout. This national championship was the first for the ASU softball team. Overall, the Sun Devils captured three national championships this year, with Women's and Men's indoor Track & Field teams being crowned a few months ago.
