Newcomer Report

If the Sun Devils are to have a successful 2002 campaign, their young talent will have to step up and perform. On Saturday, ASU was beat 34-13 by a superior USC team that did not make a lot of mistakes for the Devils to capitalize on. Here are the contributions of the first-year players for the Devils.

On offense, Hakim Hill had one rush for two yards. True freshman Derek Hagan, who stepped into the lineup for the injured Daryl Lightfoot had a great game, with six catches, totaling 72 yards. Chaz White, Tim Fa'aita and Grayling Love played on the offensive line, and Lee Burghgraef at tight end.

Defensively, Matt Fawley had 10 total tackles. Mike Davis Jr., Shane Jones, and Brett Hudson had three tackles a piece. Jamar Williams chipped in with a couple of tackles, as did Nick Johnson.

On special teams, Tim Parker had six punts for an average of 49 yards, including one punt for 75 yards. Josh Golden had one excellent kickoff return for 42 yards.
