J.C. Braker Wouldn't Mind Joining Teammate at ASU

Arizona State has already landed one talented player from Glendale Community College (AZ), speedy cornerback Chris McKenzie. How close are they to landing this five star defensive end?

"ASU hasn't offered." Said J.C. Braker who played in the Phoenix area at Aqua Fria High School. "ASU is recruiting me pretty hard. I went there last Thursday to watch practice with Chris (McKenzie). They've been calling me a lot and sending letters just like the other schools. I like it there a lot. I wouldn't mind going there. If they wanted me to visit I definitely be going there. I think they may offer pretty soon." Braker mentioned that he likes the Sun Devil coaching staff, and their style of coaching "I like how they get after it over there." Other factors they he seeks in his school of choice would be: "What the team is looking like (in terms of success), getting along with the players, and what school can help my career."

With rumors swirling over the early departure of ASU's star defensive end Terrell Suggs, it is very convincible that the Devils will covet a star JC player to try and replace the mid-season All-American. The GCC standout is more than fine with that scenario. "I think I could probably have the same success Terrell Suggs is having. I won't compare myself to Suggs, but if I go there I'll be thinking about filling his shoes (smile)." In the meantime, the 6-6 245 defensive end is doing quite well for himself. Case in point, he has already collected ten sacks on the year. When we asked him to assess his skills he said: "I'm a good pass rusher. I'm pretty fast getting to the quarterback (runs a 4.6). I probably could work on getting stronger and bigger." His last game of the season will be one of the most prestigious bowl games in the Junior College ranks – Valley of the Sun Bowl. His team is set to face Garden City in that game.

When we asked him about his general feelings on the recruiting process, he told us it was a mixed bag of goods. "The recruiting process has been great for me so far. I have a lot of schools contacting me, so that's good. But it's a whole lot of pressure and stress, being recruited, and going to class and practices." The only two schools to offer him so far are Temple and Arizona. He does feel that scholarship offers could be forthcoming from ASU, Arkansas, Colorado St. Southern Mississippi, and Michigan State. He expects to fill in his five-visit quota from those after mentioned schools. "I haven't taken any official visits yet. I'm waiting for the end of the season. I did set up some visits for Temple on 12/13, and Arizona on 1/10. I plan to schedule a visit with Arkansas this week, probably for 1/18." The defensive end is in no hurry to decide on a school of his choice. "I plan to take all of my five visits, and make decision after that."

Pass rushers are always a desirable commodity in a school's recruiting plans. Thus, one can expect the recruiting trail for this desert star to heat up in the next few months.
