Thursday's Post-Practice Quotes

ASU Head Coach Dennis Erickson addressed the media as the Sun Devils wrap up their practices for the road game at Cal.

Erickson on Status of Thomas Weber:

"Yeah he's going to wear what he's got on now which is a splint. It wasn't any bother today, other than it might get him a little off balance when he kicks because of the weight. No, I'm just kidding."

Erickson on Mike Nixon Kicking Field Goals Yesterday:

"He's our backup. You always have to have a backup guy on the road in case something happens."

Erickson on How Team Has Practiced Recently:

"It's been good. We've run a lot, we'll find out here in a couple days. We've practiced well and we have to take it out on the field."

Erickson on Matchup with Cal:

"Cal is a good football team. They're a good football program. Ever since (Cal Head Coach) Jeff (Tedford) has been there they've been very competitive. I think we've only beaten them one time in the last five attempts and we haven't come close to beating them on the road. They're good. They lost to Maryland but they almost came back and won it. They're very solid on defense, a lot of returners. They have a great quarterback and they have the best center in football. It's going to be a fun game to compete in. It's all about going up there and seeing what we can do on the road."

Erickson on Difference of Cal This Year and Last Year:

"When you lose guys like DeSean Jackson it hurts, but there is give and take on that stuff. They play very well as a team. They're very physical. To me they are a better team than they were a year ago."

Erickson on Status of Keegan Herring:

"Keegan is going to play unless something happens in the next couple days. But he is pretty close to 100 percent."

Erickson on Who Will Start at Defensive Tackle Opposite of David Smith:

"Lawrence (Guy) is going to start. Saia (Falahola) has been nicked up a little bit. Lawrence has had a lot of the turns. Saia will alternate in there as will Paul Unga but we will start Lawrence."

Erickson on Who Will Start at Strong Safety:

"Right now we're not sure whether it's going to be Rodney (Cox) or Clint Floyd."

Erickson also added that Tom Njunge will be the starter at right tackle for Saturday's game.
