JC Cornerback Favors Sun Devils

6-0 186 Cerritos cornerback LeQuan Lewis has been pursued by Arizona State since the spring. The attention he's receiving from the maroon and gold hasn't gone unnoticed by the sophomore who told Devils Digest that the Sun Devils are the clear cut leader for his services.

"I like Arizona State's recruiting approach," said Lewis. "They're my no. 1 school. Coach Lubick is recruiting me and compared to other coaches he laid out everything for me. Other coaches came in the spring, said hello but never really laid out their plans."

"Coach Lubick also took the time to know me as person and we have a good personal relationship."

Lewis hasn't visited Tempe, but did get to see the Sun Devils in person when they played USC. Despite the lopsided loss in that game, the corner did like the defensive scheme that he saw from ASU.

"They play a lot of man (to man) defense and I'm a good lock down corner, so I liked that," he said.

Cerritos is 6-2 on the season, and thus far in 2008 LeQuan Lewis has collected 29 tackles, two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and averages 35.5 yards on kick returns (one of which was returned for a score).

"My speed (Lewis was clocked at a 4.29 in the spring) and change of direction are my strong points," stated Lewis. "I do a good job with my footwork, but I can always improve on that."

Lewis stated that Coach Lubick visited Cerritos as late as a couple of weeks ago (during ASU's bye week) and watched him in action. "Besides Arizona State, Kansas is the only other school recruiting me hard," remarked Lewis. "Some schools came to check me out in the spring but I didn't hear from them after that."

"I wish I had more schools looking at me and I don't have any offers. So the first school that is going to offer me a scholarship, I'm gonna probably commit to them."

The cornerback is on track to graduate in December and will have three years to play two.
