Newcomer Report

Several Arizona State newcomers got in on the action as the Sun Devils beat Washington State 31-0, ASU's first shutout since 1996.

Ryan Bass was the team's second leading rusher on the day with 35 yards on seven carries. The true freshman's longest run went for 21 yards.

Chandler Hamilton product Gerell Robinson caught one pass for seven yards. Also catching a pass, his first of the season, was tight end Stanley Malamala.

Linebacker Shelly Lyons paced the defensive newcomers with five tackles, including one for a 2-yard loss. Lyons was a key ingredient in holding the Cougar offense to just seven net rushing yards on Saturday. Teammate Brandon Magee notched two tackles as well.

Lawrence Guy added three tackles at his defensive tackle spot. Guy also returned a Washington State fumble for 22 yards. Defensive end James Brooks chipped in one tackle for a 4-yard loss.

Defensive backs Jarrell Holman and Terell Carr had four stops a piece. Pierre Singfield notched another two tackles while true freshman cornerback Josh Jordan had one solo stop to help the secondary.
