Koetter Fully Respect His Bowl Opponent

The ASU coach was not aware that his team is a 17.5 point underdog, but he does not dream of taking the Kansas State Wildcats lightly when they meet in the Holiday Bowl.

"We play better when we're the underdog." says Koetter, "Kansas State has a great Football team. We love to put a string of ten straight bowl games like they have. We'll give people their money's worth, and we'll show up and play hard." When asked to analyze the Sun Devils' next opponent, the Arizona State coach was extremely complimentary. "I've looked at a lot of tape. I've been spending a lot of time on airplanes, so I've been looking at it on my (laptop) computer. They're impressive, they're physical, and they're fast. But I think we can do some things that would give them problems. They don't really play teams that are like us offensively. They have a tremendous ground attack with their tailback and quarterback."

When asked which Pac-10 defense reminds him of the Wildcats, he replied: Probably a cross between Washington State and USC. They got great speed. They're really get after it. They're first in the nation for a reason." The Kansas State fans are deeply disappointed about being snubbed from a BCS bowl game, and Koetter fully agrees when asked if they are the best team not in a BCS bowl. "No question. Not even close. Having played two BCS teams. Washington State and USC, if they (Kansas State) aren't one of the best eight teams in the country I'll eat my hat. We're fortunate from a Pac-10 standpoint that two teams get in the BCS, but it's not a perfect system. Someone will always sneak in there that doesn't deserve it, and there's always someone left out, and I think Kansas State is the team that got left out this year."
