One down one to go for Texas DL

Prior to his ASU visit Hitchcock (Tex.) standout Michael Sam has narrowed down his list of favorites to two. Following his trip to Arizona State where do the Sun Devils stand in terms of his recruitment picture? Sam talked to Devils Digest about his official visit to Tempe.

"Oh man it was nice," said the 6-3 230 Michael Sam. "It went really good. I got to hang with the players and that was cool. They were a lot of fun to be around with. I really love the coaches. They're really straight up and will never BS you and all that stuff. I love the academic support too.

"The weather is really nice. It's probably nicer than I thought it was. It's dry and Houston is really humid. It just seems like a fun place to be at and the whole visit was just awesome."

Sam was hosted by defensive end Jamaar Jarrett.

The defensive lineman indicated that he didn't commit to the Sun Devils since he wishes to check out his other main suitor this coming weekend. "I want to take the Colorado State visit," Sam said, "and compare the two, and make my decision the following week."

The Sun Devil prospect played on both the offensive line and defensive line for the 2A Bulldogs, who finished the 2008 campaign at 7-3 and lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Sam earned first-team all-district honors at both defensive end and offensive tackle, as well as first-team all Houston area at defensive end.

Sam found out a few weeks back, after re-taking the SAT, that he scored a 1230, which along with his 3.1 GPA puts him in excellent position to qualify academically.
