"ASU has been recruiting me hard for the past few months." Says the linebacker. "I'm interested in them, and I like their coaches. It seems like a real nice school." Washington who hails from one of the best high school programs in California, Poly (Polytechnic) in Long Beach, has a tentative visit scheduled in Tempe for Jan. 17th. He already visited Washington and Colorado, and this week he'll visit the newly crowned National Champions Ohio State. He may end up visiting Oregon on Jan. 24th. "I really have no favorite school. Right now I'm just visiting the schools I'm interested in, and trying to compare them."
Not only did the 6-3 240 Washington play for such an esteemed high school team, but he was clearly one of their defensive stars. In his senior year he had 117 tackles (including 23 tackles for loss), 7.5 sacks, and four pass deflections. "I've only be playing Football for 2-3 years, so I've been working hard on my game. I'm good at getting to the ball fast (he runs a 4.56). I need to work more on my reads and recognize pass and run plays."
The linebacker who has been inundated with recruiting attention says that his recruiting experience: "Has its good times and bad times. Overall it's pretty good, and flattering to know that so many schools want you in their program. You just have to remember that you go through this process only once." Washington mentioned to us that his academics are all in order, and that education is one of the factors he'll consider when choosing which school to spend the next few years of his Football career. "I also look at how the coaches and the players are, and how the campus life is. I have to feel comfortable there." And when will that decision be made? "Probably after the ASU visit. It just has to be the right time. It's hard to say when that time will come." Sun Devil fans can only hope that Washington does arrive to his Tempe visit, and his decision will come shortly after and in favor of the maroon and gold.
