Ajawara Lands First Offer

Throughout the recruitment of his Tesoro High School teammate Evan Finkenberg, Sil Ajawara caught the eye of the Sun Devils. Earlier this week, ASU stepped up their recruitment of the offensive lineman and offered him a scholarship. An elated Ajawara talked to Devils Digest about this recruiting development.

"Coach Lubick talked to me on the phone on Tuesday and I was real excited to hear from him," said the 6-4 310 Sil Ajawara. "I haven't heard from Arizona State for a few weeks so I was a little surprised they offered.

"They said the coaches are real excited about me, and thought I would be a good fit for the team."

Naturally, when ASU was recruiting Tesoro offensive lineman Evan Finkenberg, who signed a letter of intent with the Sun Devils, they couldn't help but notice the Titans' left guard.

"When they came to my school it was really all about Evan and they didn't talk a lot to me," Ajawara said. "I guess they were looking at me a lot too."

Ajawara plays exclusively on the offensive line, and is poised to be Tesoro's best lineman this coming season. In the weight room he reported marks of 450 lbs squatting, 275 in the power clean and 295 on the bench.

"I want to work on being more explosive," he commented concerning his skills. "I do a good job against the pass rush, but need to have quicker feet."

ASU is his first offer to date, but Ajawara indicated that he expected some other Pac-10 schools to follow suit in the near future.

"UCLA and Arizona have been recruiting me a lot and I'm going to their camps," Ajawara stated. "Oregon has been recruiting me a lot too."

Ajawara plans to visit Tempe in the off-season, and holds the maroon and gold in high regard. "They're definitely a school high on my list," he said. "I always liked them, and Evan told me what a great school they are. I got to see online the campus and the facilities, and it looks like a great place in general to be around."
