ASU routs Yale

Becca Tobin scored 14 points to lead 14th ranked Arizona State to an 82-46 rout of the Yale Bulldogs at Lee Amphitheater in New Haven, Connecticut.

The Sun Devils (2-0) started the game on an 18-2 run to seize control and they never let up the rest of the way. During the stretch, the Bulldogs missed 12 shots in a row and turned the ball over six times.

ASU led at the half by 14, but opened the second half on an 11-3 run and eventually stretched that lead out to as many as 39 in the second half.

Despite the blowout victory, ASU head coach Charli Turner Thorne sees areas to improve. The Sun Devils had 28 turnovers on the evening.

"I think a lot of that was focus," Turner Thorne said. "I credit Yale, but we're going to have to get a lot better. That's the key to that game - taking care of the ball. It's more us. I was very disappointed in that today. We won't have a chance on Saturday."

The Sun Devils out rebounded the undersized Yale (2-1) team 61-21 and ASU grabbed 27 offensive rebounds. Leading the way for ASU was junior forward Becca Tobin who scored 14 points and had nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Kimberly Brandon and sophomore guard Alex Earl each chipped in 12.

Redshirt freshman forward Janae Fulcher added 11 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. The Sun Devils held Yale to 24.1% from the field.

The challenge certainly gets more difficult for the Sun Devils on Saturday, as ASU travels to Cincinnati to take the 9th ranked Xavier Bulldogs. Tipoff is set for noon Arizona time.
