"I did get to talk to Coach Dennis Erickson who told me about the program. He said he really liked how I played and he would love to have me. I felt the school was very strong when it came to their academics and that's important to me. I would hope they would offer me – that would be great."
In 2009 Martin ran for 1,774 yards on 222 carries and 25 touchdowns leading Cathedral Catholic to the CIF-San Diego D-III title. He reported a 40-time of 4.5.
"I have good speed but I want to get faster which is why I'm running track now," Martin commented. "I'm working hard in the weight room too every day. I've been playing football for so long, so I have good vision and I see the field really well.
"I like how Arizona State has their running backs always in shot gun because that helps you see the field very well."
Martin listed Arizona State along with Princeton, Iowa, Arizona, Stanford and San Diego State as his favorites. He unofficially visited Cal, Princeton, Yale and Columbia. He plans to visit Arizona, Iowa and Stanford in the next several weeks and is scheduled to attend ASU's camp in June.
With his suitors stretching literally from coast to coast, location is unlikely to be a driving force in his recruitment.
"I just want to play in a place that feels right to me," Martin explained. "Whether it's far way or close it has to feel right. I think I will make my decision later on so I can really see all my options before I make my final decision.
"Good football facilities, a good place socially and good relationships with the coaches are some other things that are very important to me too."
