The Chippewas were led by forward Mike Manciel who dropped 29 points, a season high. He also added eight rebounds and three steals. After the Bluejays cut the lead to two in the final two minutes, Manciel answered with a jumper to push the lead back to four. Creighton never got any closer after Manciel's clutch jumper.
Despite having arguably their best player, Chris Kaman, on the bench for 10 minutes of the first half, the Central Michigan Chippewas led Creighton 38-22 at the break. The Bluejays put full-court pressure on the Chippewas for the entirety of the first half, but CMU broke the press easily, leading to many lay-ups. Central Michigan shot 58.6 percent in the first half and was led by Manciel who only missed one of his seven attempts from the field.
Only one minute into the second half, CMU broke open a 20-point lead off of two straight Creighton turnovers. The CMU lead escalated to 26 before Creighton opened a 15-1 run with roughly 16 minutes left in the second to bring the score to 40-51. From the 16-minute mark until under 11 minutes, Creighton did not miss a field goal attempt, knocking down 11 in a row to bring the game within eight.
Creighton rallied behind star forward Kyle Korver, who finished with 21 points and nine rebounds to bring the Bluejays within striking distance. However, the rally was not enough and the Bluejays fell to Central Michigan 79-73.
