We were in attendance at Sunday's Red-Blue game and here are a few impressions that we had from the action.
* Derrick Williams is still the best player on the team and may actually be improved from last season.
The one aspect of his game that Williams has needed to work on is defense, but unfortunately you do not see enough of that in a scrimmage setting,
With that being said, Williams definitely looks stronger and may be at a level physically where he can guard the stronger players in the paint if need be.
* Jordin Mayes may be the most underrated player in the class and should get legitimate playing time right away.
Kyle Fogg is not a point guard and Miller would like to never have to use him there, thus Mayes is bound to see some time anyway.
However, he showed Sunday that he is good enough to get minutes regardless and is rapidly becoming one of the more important parts of the team in terms of depth and overall effectiveness.
Mayes showed nice vision and has a natural ability to run the point, so don't be surprised to see him get somewhat significant minutes.
* Kyryl Natyazhko looks to be stronger as well and his play in Europe will hopefully translate to the states.
Natyazhko led the team with six rebounds and Arizona would love to see similar numbers during the season, as it is definitely going to need help on the glass.
While Natyazhko is still raw offensively, Arizona is going to need him to have a solid season and Sunday was a good start.
* Jesse Perry may not be the most skilled player on the team, but what he lacks in skill he makes up for with his overall energy.
Perry still has a ways to go, but he is going to be strong defensively and should give a nice effort on the glass.
Those expecting a physically dominant player are mistaking, but he is strong enough to be a factor in the paint.
