Matt Scott got the start and all the action on Saturday, as Nick Foles sat out due to injury.
Scott finished with solid numbers, but struggled in the second half.
Still, the offense moved the ball and Stoops was relatively complimentary after the game.
"Offensively I thought we moved the ball well all game," Stoops said. "The fourth quarter was a little disappointing.
"I thought Matt (Scott) was throwing to the right people; he just got a little bit high with the football. We had chances to put the game away. They kept us out of the end zone a big part of the game."
For the majority of the game, Scott was able to make the necessary plays, especially on the ground.
"I thought he was really good," Stoops said. "I thought Matt played well the whole game. He ran the ball effectively. He made tons of plays throughout the course of the game.
"They came with a lot of pressure. He did a good job running. He continues to improve and we knew that we could win with Matt."
Although Stoops had positive things to say about Scott after the game, it is difficult to believe that Foles will not be the starter come this time next week.
He simply shows more composure in big situations and while that may seem like a slight on Scott, it really is not.
Arizona may have the best second string quarterback in the country but make no mistakes about it, that is all that Scott is.
