Arizona signee Mustafa Shakur had a big weekend at the EA Sports Roundball Classic. Shakur, playing point guard for the East All-Star team, had a great outing despite losing 120-119 to LeBron James' West squad.
Shakur earned team MVP honors scoring 13 points and dishing out a game-high 12 assists. He also had three steals in just 26 minutes of play. He was two assists shy of the Roundball record of 14 set two years ago by 2003 Naismith Award winner T.J. Ford
Shakur was much more comfortable playing point guard after having to play off-guard during the McDonald's All-American game in Cleveland. He scored just seven points in that event.
The EA Sports Roundball Classic was played at the United Center in Chicago and drew 19,678 fans, the largest crowd to ever watch a high school basketball game in the state of Illinois.
Shakur will enroll at Arizona in the fall and should compete for the starting point guard job vacated by senior Jason Gardner.
