Big day for Anderson at Portsmouth

Rick Anderson's pursuit of an NBA career begins at the Portsmouth Invitational and his first game was a doozy. With NBA scouts on hand Anderson showed that he was a force inside and out as his Portsmouth Sports Club team wholloped the Norfolk Sports Club 96-74.

In Thursday night's game Anderson scored 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting, including making 2-3 outside the arc. Anderson added 10 rebounds and a pair of assists and steals in 29 minutes. To round out a great box score Anderson committed zero turnovers.

Anderson was one of six players in double figures on his team. They were led by 18 from Weber State's Jermaine Boyette and 16 from Trevor Harvey. Indiana guard Tom Coverdale had eight assists while Anderson led all rebounders in the contest.

Ryan Randle led the losing team with 16 points.

Anderson's club was set to play Norfolk Naval Shipyard Friday night, but at the time of this story scores had not been posted.

The day featured a number of other big performances. Ugonna Onyekwe had a monster game in Norfolk's 92-83 win. The big man from Penn had a double-double, scoring 15 and ripping down 13. In a losing effort for the Bearch Barton Ford club, Robert Jackson had a double-double of his own. The Marqutte center had 18 and 12. In the day's first game DePaul forward Sam Hoskins had the lone 20-point performance, but his Riddle Acura team fell 66-60 to MD Designs.
