Arizona looking at receiver

Texas athlete Deante' Gray may not have an offer from Arizona yet, but that does not mean one is not coming.

The Arizona coaching staff continues to evaluate the class of 2012, and players are beginning to emerge as targets and candidates for offers. The UA coaches have their eye on a wide receiver from Texas, as Deante' Gray feels he's in good position to add Arizona to the list of scholarship offers he's already assembled.

"I've got offers from Texas Tech, Colorado, Tulsa, and UTSA," Gray said. "Arizona has said they're close to offering. They're recruiting me pretty hard. I get frequent letters, but it's nothing too serious just yet."

The 5-foot-9, 168-pound speedster from Houston Westside high school says that while the Wildcats have yet to officially offer him a scholarship, if they chose to do so it would put them near the top of his list because of their offensive philosophy.

"I know they run a pretty diverse offense spread wise," Gray said. "I think I would fit in pretty good because that's the kind of player I am. I have really good hands, I'm really quick off the ball with good speed, and I make plays when I have the ball. I could see myself playing for them.

"If they offered, my interest would be really high. I know they have a nice campus and great academics also."

While he waits on the Wildcats amongst others, Gray admits to having an early leader in his recruitment.

"I would say Texas Tech is recruiting me the hardest," Gray said. "I've really clicked with all of the coaches and they're really up front. Texas Tech is my leader right now."

As the process continues to unfold for Gray, he knows what criteria by which he'll be evaluating the schools from which he has to choose from.

"First off, I'm looking at the academics and if my parents like it and they approve," Gray said. "I'll also be looking at the campus and the lifestyle."

Next year as a senior, Gray will be looking to build off a junior campaign in which he hauled in 40 catches for 415 yards and five touchdowns. It's sometime around his final year at Westside that Gray feels he'll be in position to give his commitment to a school.

"Hopefully I'll make a decision before the season or maybe during the season," Gray said. "I'm going to take my time with my decision and I'm going to let everything play out a little more for now."
