With thousands of Arizona fans marveling over UA's run to the Elite Eight, one of its most important viewers doesn't have any ties to the school. But if Sean Miller had his way, Rosco Allen would be apart of one of his teams in the future.
Allen said that he was tuned into the NCAA tournament and got to experience UA's deep run into the tournament as it happened, as he came away with a favorable impression of this year's UA team.
"I got to see their tournament run and I was very impressed with how far they got," Allen said. "They have a great team and they did well."
According to the 6-foot-9, 205-pound, fifth ranked power forward in the class of 2012, Arizona's deep tournament run put the Wildcats in a better position in their pursuit of his services.
"Arizona helped itself, yes," Allen said. "Being on a winning team is really important to me. I enjoy winning, it's pretty essential to me."
While Allen was not ready to name a leader at this time, he did give the Wildcats a favorable position amongst the schools currently pursuing him due to his familiarity with the program.
"I'd say most of the Pac-10 is pretty hard after me and of course UNLV because they're so close," Allen said. "Also a couple East coast schools are recruiting me.
"Arizona is definitely in the top half. They're one of the schools I've been in contact with the longest and known the longest. I've been able to build a great relationship with Coach Miller and his staff. They're definitely in the top half, definitely towards the top."
Not only does Allen like the success that Arizona has found, he believes that he would fit in with the style of play the Wildcats employ.
"It's a very fast paced system that they run and it's very open," Allen said. "I feel like there are many opportunities to attack and do certain things."
Even though he did not set one school out above the rest in his recruitment, Allen does know that he'll be taking visits somewhere this summer; he just hasn't determined where yet.
"I don't have any specific schools I'm visiting yet," Allen said. "I hope to get in a few more visits right here before AAU season. In that gap between the AAU season and the school year I'd like to get a couple more visits. Definitely before my senior year starts I'd like to."
There's still much work to be done by the prospective schools which Allen has in his pursuit, so it comes as no surprise that he is not rushing into making his decision about which college he'll suit up for.
"I don't have a specific date for deciding, it's just when I feel ready," Allen said. "When I feel comfortable enough, I'll be ready."
