Teams await word from Wise

Nic Wise has a lot of people talking. The freshman point guard from Houston dominated the 15 & Under division at the Las Vegas Easter Classic and now has some great teams interested. Wise has two favorites and after a visit this week his fate may be known.

He is just 15 years old and only 5-10, but Nic Wise is already wowing coaches with his point guard skills. According to several of his Houston Hoops teammates Wise may be ready to choose a college before he finishes his first year of high school.

Sources say that Arizona is the favorite, but that verbal to Arizona has been delayed by increased interest from Texas. According to friend and Wildcat recruit Jawann McClellan, Wise will pay an unofficial visit to Texas this week.

"Rick Barnes asked him to hold off on any decision and visit them," McClellan said. "I think he's going on Thursday."

Wise's father, Greg Wise, confirmed he and his son would be in Austin on Thursday, but that a decision could be made by the end of the week depending on what they see on the visit. The younger Wise will have a chance to spend some time with current Longhorn T.J. Ford and you can bet the Player of the Year will have only good things to say about Texas.

Wise has already visited Tucson and knows two of his potential teammates. McClellan and incoming freshman Ndudi Ebi are from Houston and have ties to the Hoops.

Arizona and Texas have young guards who should be on the roster when Wise gets there in 2006. The Cats have Mustafa Shakur coming in and the Longhorns have Daniel Gibson arriving in 2004. Gibson is another Houston Hoops player and a friend of Wise.

Cat Tracks will have the Wise decision as soon as it is made.
