Linebacker visits Arizona

Plano (Tex.) West Senior athlete Bryce Cottrell took in Arizona's scrimmage this past weekend and came away with numerous impressions.

Arizona had an unofficial visitor come out all the way from Plano (Tex.) West Senior High School this past weekend to watch the team's first scrimmage of spring practice, and Bryce Cottrell left Tucson pleased with his visit.

"I loved the campus and the environment," Cottrell said. "I like the coaches and the practice was really fun."

The 6-foot-3, 220 pound outside linebacker prospect kept close tabs on the defense's performance on Saturday, and was happy with what he saw.

"I like the way the defense played," Cottrell said. "They got a lot of interceptions and they were physical. It's a system I could see myself playing in."

Although he does not currently hold an Arizona offer, Cottrell has been assured that one may be on the way.

"I talked to coach (Mike) Stoops and he said Coach (Dave) Nichol will be out there in the spring to evaluate me," Cottrell said. "He said they're thinking about giving me an offer and that I might be getting one."

An all-district selection as a junior, Cottrell already has three official offers and has more visits in the works.

"I have offers from Baylor, Syracuse, and Mississippi State," Cottrell said. "I'm going to visit USC pretty soon, then I'll be visiting Oregon and Syracuse."

With more offers on the way, Cottrell is unable to place the Wildcats amongst his list of favorites, and he also has no idea on a timetable for his decision.

"Arizona is a good school, but I'm not too sure of anything yet," Cottrell said. "I'm not really sure when I'm going to decide."
