Nike Camp Day One--Hassan Adams

Arizona may have a new target in its search for help at the wing. 6-4 Hassan Adams from Los Angeles (West Chester) seems to be an option as the Wildcats search for a much needed wing recruit.

Adams has yet to hear from the Wildcats, but Wildcat coaches were watching both of his games Sunday at the Nike All-Star Camp in Indianapolis.

So far Cal, Tennessee, Seton Hall and Boston College have shown the most interest. Adams told Cat Tracks that he would be very interested in the Wildcats should Arizona come calling.

Adams is making a late jump into the top-tier of the recruiting scene, and this is his first Nike camp. So far he is really enjoying the experience.

"It's cool," Adams said. "I like the competition. This is my first time at the camp, it's a good experience for me because I haven't gotten to play against most of these players before."

Even though he has been invited to play among the nation's best, Adams realizes there is work to do to improve his game.

"I need to work on my focus during the game. I also need to work on getting my shot off the dribble."

Adams is best on the break and going to the basket. He is an exciting finisher. He is also a ball hawk on defense.

"I play hard, aggressive defense. I like to play and I play hard."

While he enjoys the summer camps, realizes that they aren't always a great showcase of his skills.

"Some games you don't get to play as much or you don't get the ball so much. You can't worry about it. You just have to stay focused and try to get your team involved. Hopefully you win."

Adams loves basketball, but that isn't necessarily the primary focus in choosing a school.

"Mainly academics, strong academics," Adams says f what is most important in the school he eventually chooses. "My mom really stressed that. I don't have any problems academic-wise.

Although academics are the primary decision-maker, style of play is also vital. Adams likes to run.

"Very up tempo," Adams says of his preferred offense. "Push it up the floor, get out on breaks. I like playing that way, it makes the game exciting."

His future teammates are also a key component of choosing a school. Adams doesn't care for teams that leave it on the floor.

The team has to have heart and play hard. If the team gives up, then I don't like playing with those kids. I'm a hard worker. I work hard to play hard and win."

Adams is clearly a hard worker as evidenced by his workout habits.

"I'm in the gym all the time" Adams said. "Every chance I get I go to gym. I go for as long as I can, until it closes. I'm definitely a gym rat."

Adams has two more chances to impress the Arizona coaches. He will attend the Nike camp in Augusta, Georgia and then he will compete in the Fairfax tournament at the end of July.
